What a blast we had with Resource Depot’s teacher, Mary Glazier and her “Collective Dreams for a Waste-Free Planet” workshop. She had FOCB students create a mixed-media woven art piece that “expressed their dreams for a cleaner world rooted in sustainability, creativity, and environmental hope.” They used a large, circular cardboard base, yarns, and a variety of colored fabrics cut into long strips, weaving the yarn and pieces into a layered, circular design. They came out amazing!
Give Resource Depot a call and/or visit their website, and get info on their great store where you can buy everything dirt cheap for your art/craft projects. They also have lessons and workshops. 561-882-0090; www.resourcedepot.org. Here’s some info on this amazing place:
Our “Collective Dreams for a Waste-Free Planet” workshop invites participants to join in our two-year, grant-funded initiative that brings a free, hands-on upcycling workshop (with all materials provided) directly to you. This two-hour experience blends environmental education with creative expression.
ABOUT RESOURCE DEPOT:
Resource Depot is a cREative REuse Center in West Palm Beach, Florida, dedicated to helping others see the creative value in discarded items. We help keep items out of the waste stream by creatively reusing them instead of throwing them away.
For 25 years, Resource Depot has tackled Palm Beach County’s growing waste problem by rescuing unwanted and excess materials, turning waste into wonder. Resource Depot collects donations from businesses and individuals and redistributes the items to teachers, artists, families, and other non-profit organizations that need them, encouraging creative, hands-on learning and innovation.
Not only does this support arts and education programs by stretching supply budgets, Resource Depot keeps hundreds of thousands of pounds reusable materials out of the waste stream each year – materials such as carpet squares, paper of all sizes and colors, wallpaper sample books, tiles and tile samples, office supplies and craft materials such as buttons, ribbon, yarn or beads.
We organize workshops, community events, and collaborate with educators to integrate environmental awareness into programs. Our GalleRE showcases artwork by local artists who use upcycled materials, while our Materials Marketplace and TreasuRE offer a variety of repurposed items for purchase. Help us divert waste from landfills and join our mission of creative sustainability.
