The Florida Outreach Center for the Blind has a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist & Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT) to teach our blind and visually impaired students important independent living skills and how to take care of their own needs.
Students learn to overcome physical and emotional obstacles so they can confidently travel beyond the confines of their home.
Our instructor also can visit a student’s home to assess what needs updating or changing to help make things as easy and productive as possible for you.
A few of the things FOCB students in Orientation & Mobility class learn:
- How to navigate safely using either a white cane or guide dog
- Using public transportation like Palm Tran, Lyft, trains, and more
- Navigating in your wheelchair or with your walker
- Managing money
- Identifying and managing medications
- How to do laundry
- Cooking & cleaning skills
